Stowage, baskets, bedrolls and tarps
Recently, people have asked about making
bedrolls and tarpaulins, stowage and turret
bustles. This all came together when Brigade
produced some stowage pieces and Ainsty have
produced prototypes of their stowage baskets in
etched brass
So a tutorial seemed to be in order.
Baskets
Basket in many materials can be made,
including resin, white metal or even from
scratch, but the open ‘mesh’ of etched brass is
hard to beat.
The Ainsty ones come on a sheet with one small
basket, two medium sized ones and a large one
with a curved rear to fit the Blower tanks curves
turret, although there are trim lines to show
where it may be cut to fit other shapes. The
sheet also has some panels and dish aerials to
fill in wasted spaces on the fret.
The two sides of the main basket fold up and the
rear folds and has two small tabs at either end
which fold over and grip the basket edges
slightly. Then, just dip the corner very lightly in a
small puddle of cyano glue to fix them together.
The best way to stick them is with the thin etch
just ender the bottom of the turret (it doesn’t
affect the rotation at all) and just touch the
edges of the side panels with some more cyano
glue to fix them to the turret’s edge.
The baskets can be cut slightly to fit them to the
Blower Command tank plus other vehicles.
The medium and small baskets can find homes
on many vehicles - I put some on some Brigade
British vehicles, as can be seen here. Being thin
brass, they can be quite easily customised to
whatever is needed.
