A bad day for the New Ukrainian Army
Jim and Roger set up
Late in November 2016, I had a great game with mates Jim and Roger on the same scenery set up that I’d used with my game with Henry Hyde  but with different forces. Ahhh: the joys of a table I can leave up and not clear the scenery away! Jim - who has a huge selection of Crucible forces (by which I mean more than me!) brought along his two detachments of Elite New Ukrainian Army. They came on from map right (see right). Fighting against them were a pair of detachments from the Marvellan Confederacy  (from map left) that I had lent Roger and they were coming to relieve my forces in the centre of the urban conurbation. I ran one detachment of the West Riding Yeomanry under Lt Cain as a specialist commander. Each of the other forces had a Lt and a Captain each, and all were rated as veterans. Initiative went back and forth during the game but seemed to flip at interesting - and for Jim’s Ukrainians, unfortunate - moments. In the first two turns, for example, after a Ukrainian charge on his left flank, the WRY managed to steam out on a suicide mission, take out some of Jim’s units and then - in the next turn - win initiative so that they could avoid (for a time at least) being toasted in retaliation. The game went back and forth over a few hours but one of Jim’s detachments finally fled the field. Although the WRY had take huge losses, and the Marvellans had taken a beating, Jim’s final detachment on his right flank had so many crippled, immobile vehicles, that he conceded. A fun day: thanks Jim and Roger! John Treadaway
