Expedition to Morgen’s Planet...
A mixed ability science trip...Patrick Sexton’s group in the Chicago arearan a great looking Slammers game in June and this is the report and pictures Mr Sexton provided: The scenario was a scientific expedition from the Dale Pauwels Polytechnic being ambushed by a raiding force. For the scientists and escorts, I was trying a command structure labelled Expedition (if it were purely military I would call it a Task Force or Combat Command), this would be a force with varying morale and skill levels with an average morale for anything affecting the entire force. In this case, one vehicle and its passengers were elite, six were veteran and five were trained. The raiders were all trained (this time). The expedition ended up losing three vehicles but saving the crews while the raiders lost about half their force including weapon kills. I had stressed to the raider command to think of the game in the context of a campaign and (surprisingly, since these were some of my more bloodthirsty friends) they ended up doing a phased retreat about four turns in and that is how this game ended.Looking back, I should have come up with some larger weaponed vehicles for the raiders as it was difficult for them to damage the big crawlers with the exception of the ATGWs but the rolls for those were atrocious.I have spent my gaming budget since then on buying vehicles to use as guntrucks as well as getting more technicals. The models used for the expedition were Khurasan for the crawlers and armored cars
