Slammerhead: Alois’ boys go to the Hammerhead show in 2014
The Slammers attacked along three roads to
speed up their progress and the defenders tried
to use the cover of the city to their advantage.
They placed snipers with laser designators and
proceeded to saturate Slammers vehicles with
light ATGW missiles, a tactic that gave some
level of success. They could achieve this without
line of site on their intended targets, even in the
confines of a city, simply because of their well
placed, designating snipers.
They also tried jumping out from cover with
concealed infantry carrying buzzbombs but had
more failures, with the Slammers anti-buzzbomb
systems taking out the warheads when they
found their mark - and even though the WRY’s
Lt Cain had the Elite Skills of Double Tap and
Tanks Hunter, increasing his chances of a kill.
Finally, the Slammers succeeded in their
objective, taking out the Antargran heavy
Zentaurs and numerous other vehicles in the
process, but they paid a heavy price, losing
three blower tanks and several combat cars
either destroyed or damaged.
Forces used included the Ainsty Slammers,
WRY using Brigade EuroFed vehicles and
Antargrans by Khurasan. The game saw the first
appearance of a 'beta test' of a specific token
set created especially for the rules by Figures in
Comfort. They are custom cut acrylic and
feature every token you need to play the game
from Leadership points to damage and
suppression results, missiles to Thunder Runs.
Thanks to all who ran the game (Fi, Peter Merritt
and Kevin Dallimore) but also to those that
played - especially Andrew Hubback for running
two of the Slammers troops.
