A Mini-Campaign game - Apex Dragoons v Solace Regulars
Solace Freedom Fighters air trucks as a barricade while the Elites sweep to their left Apex Dragoon detachment loses a Slingshot and the turret from another Solace Regulars and Freedom Fighters defend one flank. Objective is the small brown building.
Jim Clark and I played a campaign game at the Club using the Slammers Mini Campaign guidance I published on the web site. We decided on a force each without telling each other what we’d chosen before hand. Jim chose two detachments of the veteran Apex Dragoons: a Heavy Detachment and a Dragoon Detachment - 20 TUs between them and only three of them infantry… I chose three detachments from the Solace Regulars and Militia forces: a Regular detachment of 10 Veterans (their ‘Elite cavalry’ squadron); and a Regular detachment of Trained Cavalry (15TUs). Both detachments had a mix of the same vehicles and infantry but – essentially – trained to different levels. Lastly they were backed up by the citizenry of Solace: a detachment of Freedom Fighters (30TUs – mostly on foot with some air vans as transport). The game was generated by following the formula: game size (4 tables for this size of game); bowl to select type of game (I won and selected an Objective Battle); we then both selected scenery (Jim selected loads of low hills offering little cover; I selected three lots of buildings and a road). We then bowled for scenery placement which Jim won and so he placed it on the table with the road crossing the board ‘shortwise’ and a town laid out just off centre surrounded by the low hills. As the loser in that last roll I determined the objective point (one of the smaller buildings) and Jim chose two table edges for the attacker.
