Thunderbolt & Lightning: Very very frightening!

The game: 1The tracked Lightnings (two detachments) took out two and a half detachments of new Thunderbolts (even with the latter’s sniper pods and super mortars) by the end of turn three or so: some were caught on the road but others in open country or emerging from the (Amera) ruined buildings. There were many individual acts of aggression: two Thunderbolt Tank destroyers switching flanks and blowing a couple of Lightning Kraus tanks; and a Thunderbolt Shlepper using it’s heavy ATGW demolition missile to take out another tank (wrecking the weapon in the process). For the Thunderbolts, ballistic fire was very effective with the infantry Mortars and towed Viking MLRS wreaking some significant degree of damage, especially to the lighter Lightning vehicles (the Fauchard Light APCs and Falchion Light Tanks), using a combination of their Enhanced sniper doing the spotting and their Area Effect and Seeker Warheads helping their ballistic fire. This often meant multiple hits on closely grouped TUs...But in the end, the Thunderbolts suffered huge losses (including two of their senior officers), took morale tests and quit the field. At the other end of the tables the Waldheims had a little success and - when eventually their employers the Antargrans turned up - they had slightly more luck but the Lightning blowers blocked and slowed them while the hidden Wolverines (along with mortar fire from the Lightning Division took out the rest of them.
