Broadside: Slammers defend a starbase
OPPOSITION FORCESFighting the Slammers were two and a half detachments (two full detachments and a Troop) of Thunderbolts (post 348). They had a Panzer detachment and a Support detachment and a troop of Grenadiers and were led by a Major, Captain and a Lieutenant. They had both a Shlepper and a Centurion Support plus infantry mortars and two Viking MLRS. They had loads of Br59s and Br66s plus a Br57 Calliope and a Br56 command vehicle with a sniper pod.Backing them from the other end of the table were a detachment of the Stewart Regiment. These Fanatics were led by Colonel Fitzallen and had two Tanks, plus their AT towed weapons, a Katy heavy mortar and APCs stuffed full of grenade launcher wielding infantry.THE GAMEThe Thunderbolts had good commanders and – even when they one the initiative they often tried to defer to move after the Slammers. This gave the Slammers the advantage of some first shots and they sent in infantry on Skimmers to take out even heavy tanks (an Apollo from the Stewarts and the Thunderbolts Centurion fell to these) It also gave their blowers the chance to take out some armour. But their job was to defend the starbase and their own hogs and they were tasked with an all-round defence (the Thunderbolts and Stewarts attacked from either end of the table so they were surrounded.
