THE GAME ITSELFMy Eaglewings deployed second (giving them time to espy the lay of the land and Tony’s forces) plus they had the first turn drop on the Lighnings. They came in from both ends of the table: the heavy assault (and I use the word ‘heavy’ advisedly: frontal DV of 9 for the ‘attack’ vehicles and 8 for the APCs...) attacked from the same end as Tony’s Blowers and did poor work on them for the most part. When it comes to actual firepower, the best of the Raven Assault ships has Twin 5cm HI powerguns as a main armament. So they need to hit and then penetrate, the latter on a 6 for the front armour of a blower. Well you can see how that went... Their only weapon for success was my one and only Night Crow Stealth which was rapid firing heavy Brumbar ATGWs (using it’s tech – or ‘luck rolls’ – to fix any rapid fire foul ups) and aiming from cover (using it’s sniper pod) at successive blowers. While all this was going on I was using the self propelled mortar to aim long range shots at the space port buildings and space craft on the hard standing: the scenarios actual objective. At the same time the Eaglewing’s APCs and skimmers arrived at the other end of the table and disgorged their infantry who rapid fired as many light buzzbombs as they could at a mixture of space ships and Tony’s static ground forces. The lack of activation from the tracked Lightnings meant, as I’ve said earlier, that they were fairly devastating in this role.
