The Sohei Support tank was not considered a great success in combat. What was more useful was the Sohei Tank destroyer which replaced the main gun with a 22cm Discarding Sabot weapon, bought in from New Ukrainian arms manufacturers. This - again - was slower than the laser to fire but had excellent penetration. The Sohei chassis was also used for a large MLRS unit which, because of the armour values of the donor system, was often used in units quite close to the front line in the Planetary Warfare Detachments (mixed, all arms units, often referring to themselves as 'firefighters'). Medium tanks were generally based on a lighter vehicle of very similar general design to the Sohei. This was called the Shaman. Main weapons were again laser based - a 17cm Medium laser and - again - with a Heavy Support weapon. The Shaman did not have the punch of the Sohei - the laser was smaller and the missile load was missing - so the manufacturers (Mitsusaki Industries) began a series of experimental Tank Destroyer variants.
