Joy of Six: Slammers attack the Hashemites
SCENARIO The Hashemites had formed a defensive position behind the large berm formed by a raised motorway ringroad that bisected the 6ft by 8ft table. The Slammers had to attack through the raised area which, of course, severely restricted long range direct fire. There were two roadways through the berm (plus another tunnel) and – accepting the slopes as difficult terrain for all vehicles (except the flyers, of course) – there was also an additional disadvantage for the defenders that the areas nearest to them formed between the berm and the terrain they held had flooded: not deep water but difficult for wheeled and tracked vehicles. And there was only one road though that. THE GAME The Slammers had three hogs with them and they started an artillery duel between themselves and the Bushmasters (mostly) who initially held themselves far enough back to be over their minimum range (medium plus). They aimed mostly at each other and the Slammers quickly tried to close the gap and reduce both of their options but – despite poor long visibility (no one had observation of either side because of that big linear obstruction) hits were still scored: the defenders especially made up for their lack of skills by good applied leadership (ie they spent their LPs on Confire orders to up their skill levels).
