Training Day’s
Arietes hide their command vehicle
How to play The Crucible One of the ideas we have long thought about is a training video: something on Youtube or similar showing the basics of the Hammer’s Slammers: The Crucible rule system. As we also have a game lined up at Hammerhead - a show in the UK on March 1st - we thought it a good idea to do some training about training. We wanted to make sure that the best approach was used when both introducing new people to the rules at the show and as prep work for some video footage. On that basis, we ran a couple of games. The first was a straight ‘defend a building’ game with three players. One, Mike, played the TAS  with two straight detachments including infantry with remote control Fireflies. Ken and James ran the Wrangel's Legion and Arietes. Both are about a detachment but are a little mixed: the Wrangel’s available were neither a heavy detachment (no mortar and only one gun-system vehicle) and had quite a lot of infantry and some double buggies. The Arietes are similarly ‘off list’ (only one heavier Cougar tank and heavier infantry with remotes). As the older (period wise) Wrangel’s and Arietes have no anti missile capability (and were out-pointed by the TAS), they had two advantages for the scenario: a sniper that they could share and they had the advantage of picking the buildings to hide their infantry in. Scenario wise, Ken and James' mission was to guard the city - one building specifically - from attack from whatever direction Mike came in from. Mike's was to get to the building and park outside (or – failing that – destroy it).
