Rust and Inking for depth and shading The next job is to use some orange to add some fresh rust to the skirts plus some inks to get a little variation to the patina and some shading on the stowage (and dirt around the fan intakes). For this I used just Army Painter inks: dark, Strong and Green (for the tarps) in varying degrees. I‘m trying to do two things, here, I guess. Firstly, with the rust and grime, I’m - frankly - covering up mistakes, especially with sloppy masking. Secondly I’m trying to add depth and panel lines around hatches, the stowage and the skirts. Lastly I’m adding dirt and weathering: fluids dripping from the jerry cans, grease in the hinges, that sort of thing. Before I did this, however, I painted a few little details: I added extra dirt into the barrels (which I had previously drilled out just to deepen them) and painted the sensor domes in distinctive colours (to make it easier to identify on the table top). .
