Matt and ChromeI then waited 24 hours and sprayed them with three light coats of Testors Dullcoat matt varnish. When that had been given a couple of hours, I used a Chrome Ink Felt Tipped Pen I have (bought from Amazon and designed for craft work but much loved by model car restorers) and - rather than se it directly - I pushed and pushed the tip onto my palette until I had a small puddle of - what looks for all the world like - liquid mercury. I used a fine brush to then paint this onto highlights on the weapons and - more importantly - the visors: Drake describes the pull down, face covering visors the Slammers have on their helmets as being like a chrome 'bubble' and this is the closest I can get to this. Seriously, it looks like burnished metal and kicks every other silver paint to death.BaseWhen dry the figures were stuck onto their bases with super glue and - along with the Hiroseki - I used my own proprietary dark brown basing gloop (a paint, PVA and sand mix) and forced it i around all of their feet and covered their bases as best as possible.I had a couple of packs of Games & Gears grass clumps in two different colours and - as I wanted some variation in both size and shade - I confess I used about fifteen quids worth on the bases and was very happy with the results. Although they are really quite sticky, I nevertheless superglued them onto the bases to ensure that they stayed put. The bases were then drybrushed in desert sand (both the gritty 'soil' and all of the grass tufts) to ‘tone’ them all together plus the soil was further highlighted in Skeleton Bone.
