Infantry Now for the bit I always hate: the foot sloggers. I had enough for six regular infantry teams (all with buzzbombs but no seperate figures for them); three tripod mounted support teams; two mortar teams; and a sniper. I cut plastic card bases (30mm square for the regular guys and 40mm for the support and mortars) and set about spraying them with a base dark British Green and then dry brushing them with a lighter, hand mixed variant. Next was details - webbing, hands, weapons and so forth. These had a couple of coats - dark then light - and I added some silver in spots I’d need to add my Tamiya lacque over: screens and sensors etc. Dip The figures were dipped with Army Painter Dip Varnish (strong and Dark mixed together: end of a couple of tins!) and then sprayed with a matt varnish (Army Painter anti-shine, I think). Details and Basing The details were then painted in and the figures were stuck to their bases. These were then poked with basing compound: this is my own mix of 40% dark brown emulsion paint; 40% good quality PVA glue and 20% sand. This was carefully spread between the figure’s legs and - when that had dried off - tufts were added of varying lengths and colours. This was then all drybrushed. And I was done: Rolling Thunderbolts coming to a planet near you! John Treadaway
