Our Game/cont Having deployed from their transports they also hid a sniper in one of the sheds but without enough time for him to set up. Meanwhile a pair of light ATGWs from the MLRS that was part of the detachment were fired at the Slammers but with no ill effect: the Blower’s defensive systems swatted the missiles out of the air with ease. In the second turn Henry moved his tanks further across the bridge and the engineers debussed from their transporter vehicle and quickly – having bowled a 1 on a d3 – they successfully placed their demolition charges in that turn. So far it was going well for the Slammers! Another Commando unit – the Strike Detachment – deployed on the road (at point 2) with their leader Colonel Clark. Even though their wheeled LACVs, firing while moving line abreast on the wide road, had a reasonable main gun they simply could not effect the frontal armour of the Slammers heavy blower tanks: their shells just bounded off. A real Shermans versus King Tigers moment! In turn three, the Slammers further advanced the Combat Cars over the river and used the skimmer mounted ‘dragoon style’ infantry to take out some more Commando vehicles with shoulder launched weapons. Henry’s forces also took the chance for some payback on those lighter, ineffectual vehicles that faced them on the main road. Tank fire from the west side of the bridge soon had a handful of the light wheeled vehicles brewing up in balls of flame but – at the end of the turn – the Commando’s third and last detachment came on at position 1: this was the slower Heavy Assault detachment.
