Scale issues Scale wise all of the purchases were ‘about 1/100th’. The dozers are slightly small and the bigger Volvos are a tad too large but – on the basis of the handrails at he sides of the cab – I thought they’d pass muster. The vast mine dump truck – in the real world these are 170 tons plus – says it’s 1/64th but, again, based on the rails and ladders, I’d dispute that. Anyway they are all clean, robust, pre-painted diecasts and about the right size. First off a ‘dirty’ spray using PSC weathering sprays. Adding Armour, Guns & Extras The Volvos got a selection of rear modifications: a resin truck bed (from Brigade) was cut and fitted into the rear of one for an MLRS mount while the other had an armoured body build up of Wills plastic Steel Corrugated sheet and another tank turret, again a Brigade item, fitted. I added a ‘container’ style box to the top of the mine truck. It was scavenged from a toy (a Thunderbird 2 from the live action film) but I could have knocked something up from more corrugated steel: this was just a time saver. I drilled a hole in the roof and added a spare turret from a Darkest Star AFV. I also began prep work on two Brigade field guns for this vehicle. Next, Items were primed with rust red primer from a spray can. What could be taken from the vehicles before being stuck down were removed but – those areas that could not – were masked off using tape with plastic (the decorating variety as it covers a lot of a big vehicle.
