Initial MovesThe Apex Dragoons won every single initiative roll throughout the game and took advantage of moving units first although - as we had just so many on the table (12 detachments was really a bit large!) we simple alternated detachments after that, rather than laboriously bowl off for each one. As the Apex moved forward Mike was dismayed to lose a couple of vehicles to tank fire from the Shohei's heavy lasers in the first turn but they soon got their own back. The Sohei's were too tough to succumb easily but Mike began to pick off their lighter vehicles with alacrity and soon the kill rate amongst the various Hiroseki jeeps and APCs - and even the Shaman medium tanks - began to mount up. However - and almost as a throw away bonus - when he saw the advance column of Commandos stuck on the road at the rear of town he picked off their APC that was at the front and managed to destroy it: not catastrophically but just enough to force the dazed infantry to debuss (with a suppression token). What he didn't know, of course, was that the infantry he had 'de-horsed' was the Commandos' specialist 'Enhanced' sniper who was now cowering, stunned behind a burning APC...In the next couple of turns the Commandos managed to disentangle some of their vehicles from the log jam on the main road: some broke from the road and headed over open ground while the infantry (and the sniper) left their APCs in the cover of the HQ building and spent those two whole turns taking the lift to the top floors with the sniper hidden on the actual roof and the infantry on the floor below.
