Mercury 30: the Set UpWe decided that - rather than the open engagement over rolling planes and a cliff top from the book - we’d play an attack into a city: I named it the Mercury 30 District as I noted we were playing on the 30th anniversary of the Death of a certain Freddie Mercury and it seemed appropriate. The table was set at my maximum area: 12 feet by 5 or there abouts in a slighty wider at one end than the other layout. We had a roadway that ran down the centre through outerlying areas and - after crosing the barrier of a monorail line itself skimming over swampy water areas) it moved into the town proper and the Sincanmo objective: a large tower block (my Zocalo Hotel building). The attackers objective was to place a vehicle at the foot of the building by the doors: this could be either Chief Diabate or a Slammers Blower (whichever made it!)The opposition laid careful traps. The Thunderbolts were hidden in two areas: the forward urban district and the old shanty village (incongruously) near the posh hotel... They also had their artillery way back behind the hotel exit road to use their mortar and Centurion Launcher on their opponents. The Hashemites had their National Brigade up by the Monorail and Major Zeid back at the hotel. However they also had the Brigade’s MLRS back with the Thunderbolts to combine their efforts on some long didtance bombardment!
